"The start of the above post was pointing out that while 20cm may not seem like a lot to you, it will have serious effects on the coastal areas- the land lost by a rise is significant. ESPECIALLY since we have extensively developed the coastal areas so recently."

Sea levels have been rising for 10,000 years and they will continue to rise as long we are still in an interglacial period.

Most people have known this for some time now- it's been taught in elementary schools for over 40 years.

People should recognize that there are such things as tides and storm surges, as well as the possibility that in 100 years sea levels may rise in there regions- sea level might not rise in their regions because in some areas land is rebounding and this rate could higher than rising sea levels globally. It's also possible that regions the land is slumping and could sinking at faster rate then global sea level rise- so in addition to a possible 8" per century, the land in the region could sink 16" per century, and therefore in those areas one should allow for at least a 2' per century.

This isn't too difficult to manage.
