A question one could ask is has there been "catastrophic heating" in the 20th Century.

If you think polar bears are dying because of the current conditions then you might call that "catastrophic heating".

If Hurricanes, drought, and rising sea levels are results of global warming, you might think "catastrophic heating" has already occurred.

The media has been claiming for decades that global warming is responsible for all kinds of effects, so it wouldn't be surprising if some people imagine the present "global warming" has caused disasters, and will continue to do in the future with even more serious consequences.

It is useful to point out that "global warming" has not killed one people or one creature, nor caused any property damage, nor caused the sea level to rise even 1 inch.
Though the media has said it has be responsible for all kinds of mayhem.
