I believe in the US the Conservative political movement is mostly, not exclusively but mostly, responsible for the current financial crisis. Absolutely. Their ability to allow unregulated financial speculation allowed greed to run loose to the point it collapsed of it's own weight.
Added to that is their creation of large government, advocacy of debt as the preferred means of sponsoring optional war and trade deficits to bring tears to the eyes of the greediest importer.
The same Conservatives are those who manage to deny global warming and man's involvement with it. The same driver is at work in both cases - greed.
Conservatives are traditionally resistant to promoting the public welfare over immediate profit and dividends. Even as new information is generated and what was once a reasonable policy becomes obsolete and dangerous they refuse to change.
Check out the idea that smoking was harmful. How long did it take to get past the rididulous denial of those more interested in profit than the public welfare? The global warming situation is exactly identical. Precisely.
