Galvanizing issue

Someone that doesn't think in black and white obviously sees the validity of Israel's fear surrounded by a hordes of Islamic extremists. It's tough to condemn their government when our own and a majority of our citizenry grossly overreacted to the 9/11 attacks and just started firing blindly at the world.

At the same time it's pretty obvious that every counter-attack unless it's total (a complete wipeout of every enemy current and future) creates as many problems as it solves.

All the people screaming for violent retribution really need to be very explicit as to how they expect it to end. That's something we don't hear from them. From what I can tell their goal must certainly be a complete destruction of every Islamic fundamentalist and radical. Now as much as I'd get a warm-fuzzy knowing they were all sent off at once to their 72 virgins, the logical side of me says that's an unreachable goal unless we get into lobbing nukes at one another. I truly cannot see an end in sight by just spitting out bombs and missiles when the frustration level reaches a peak.

On the other side, negotiations are absolutely necessary but I agree with the aggressive ones on here that the bad guys will cheat and use the lull in fighting to rearm and rebuild their military capabilities.

Both sides in this issue need to admit that this whole hornet's nest of an area is probably going to continue to fester until the sun becomes a red dwarf and the only things that can probably be accomplished is just minimizing the damage, especially to the rest of the world. If there were some way we could just put up a force field around the Middle East and let them all fight amongst themselves, it would be the ultimate answer. Since we don't have that technology, perhaps a virtual one will do instead. We must ignore them, tough to do because of our dependence on the oil in the area but, if we took every resource we spent on trying to make those guys play nice and put it into other ways to produce energy, just maybe we can turn them into more of an itch than a serious wound.

My suggestion. Stop talking to them. Stop sending and selling arms to either side and convince the rest of the world to do the same. Close your ears to AIPAC and let them scream their asses off. Ignore them until they're irrelevant. By the way, this requires bi-partisan agreement. Neither the Dems or Republicans can take advantage of the anger of the Jewish voting bloc. Both parties must agree behind closed doors to put them on notice that they will no longer give such power to a single foreign country and that AIPAC had better find other issues to base their politics on in this country.

Now, I'm not saying Israel is bad. Of all the countries in the area they certainly have the most merit. I'm just saying that the world's super powers cannot get into the middle of that fight. It's time for a Mideast Prime Directive.

I won't be holding my breath that any of this will come to pass by the way. It's a complete fantasy. This same dialog will be going on for our great grand children if the world hasn't blown up by then.
