Do you even read what you type? You honestly believe that the powers that be in Iran would risk turning their country into a sheet of glass by lobbing their sole nuke to Jerusalem? There's a difference between fiery rhetoric and putting the gun up to your own head and pulling the trigger.
Don't you think it's been made abundantly clear to nuclear powers around the world that they risk total annihilation if they were to preemptively use nukes to attack an ally of the Western World? Sheesh Tom. There are blowhards all over the world in nations with nuclear weapons who've all said macho and unreasonable things from time to time but in all the years they've existed only one country's actually deployed them and only after real warnings to the attacked country.
Stop equating loudmouth national leaders with suicide bombers. If they truly possessed those traits they wouldn't surround themselves with huge contingents of bodyguards and ride around in armor-plated limousines. They also wouldn't live in the life of luxury. These guys aren't the chowder headed zealots that have nothing to live for. Hell, I'll bet most of the elite, no matter what they say publicly, don't even truly believe in the state religion.
Yes, a nuclear first strike against Israel would be devastating because of the small size of the country but you have to know that the Israeli's are fully aware of that vulnerability and have their own nuclear arsenal and ways to deliver it spread out to ensure counterstrike capability. That counterstrike would be massive compared to anything Iran could amass in 20 years even if they were given free reign to build whatever they wanted.
Here's what will happen if and probably when Iran gets the bomb. The leaders of that country will step back and spot the huge target that just formed on their capital and realize just how close to ground zero they live and work. They'll know, just as every other country has that has exploded their first bomb, the huge responsibility that comes along with the power. They'll find out as we did that having the bomb also means everyone's scared of you which, even though it's empowering, is also a huge burden.
You act as if there's some different brand of human living in the Mideast. Sure there are cultural differences but their brains developed just like all other humans with all the same basic stimulus. They have their animal side which deals with survival and they have their more reasoned and logical side. A smart foreign policy tries to minimize the first and amplify the second.
