The result of Stalin's plan for the US in the middle east

Hi Lee -

An interesting history, although it does leave out a lot.

The reason why the partitioning plan went through in 1948 was that Stalin determined that the formation of Israel would lead to unlimited US and western grief in the region, which was even then the key oil supplier to the US and West.

In the war following partitioning, Israel had air superiority.

In 1956, Britain and France both hoped to re-establish colonial rule in the area. Eisenhower did not approve, and when the Soviet Union threatened Britain and France with direct attack, the war came to an end.

In 1967, Israel's attack caught its enemies air forces on the ground.

In 1973, Henry Kissinger ran US response during the war, as Nixon was incapacitated, and US help was the key factor in turning the situation around.

We had an agreement to let the partitioning stand, and bring an end to this under Carter, but when Reagan took office that ended.

I am surprised by the importance of naval strategy, the importance of the straights of Tiran. Israel's oil must have come from Iran or elsewhere, and been delivered through those straights.

With the fall of the Shah, Saddam was encouraged, but then we had Gulf War 1.

Israel did not want a link between the West Bank and the med via the zone in South Lebanon. Israel supported the rise of Christian militias in Lebanon and destabilized the government there.

And then we have the Pollard and Lewinsky affairs. Along with US groups funding for more settlements, and no one with guts enough to mention it.

Right now, Olmert wants "international monitors", and not a UN force, but only in Gaza, and not in the West Bank.

The solution remains the same, a massive UN deployment to the West Bank and Gaza.

This ride from hell has been going on all my adult life, and like the rest of the world I am really tired of it.

In the long term, I view this as a result of Christian persecution, leading to genocide. I am worried about the combination of religious beliefs with the weapons of science. If the middle east goes up, IMO religion will be suppressed or banned afterwards.

That does not matter if its Judaism versus Islam, or Hinduism versus Islam.
