re: Alternatives

I'll give it a try.

Lets take Afghanistan under the Taliban Regime as a case study. Afghanistan refuses to hand over Osama Bin Laden and company, so the US

The military option: This is the option that Bush took. We can see now that it has been pretty effective even though it failed to kill or capture Osama Bin Ladin.

Embargoes: We could have placed trade embargoes on the country, but I don't know that it would have done much good, since Afghanistan wasn't exactly a trade center, nor does it have much to export.

Strike a Deal: Perhaps we could have struck a deal with the Taliban. X amount of dollars gives us Osama & companies head on platters or at least a window to send our specialists in without intereference from the Taliban.

Since I don't think embargoes would have worked and striking a deal with the taliban turns my stomach, then I would still pick the military option even though it cannot gaurantee perfect results. I really can't think of any other options that could be tried against a stubborn Taliban.
