"Bush Doctrine"

You can not display how your thesis does not turn into a "war-because-I-say-so" of the politicians/politics du-jour. you HAVE to recognize the inevitable danger in this. We all know that you think Bush is a moral honest politician- but we all know that you find plenty who are not. When one of those is sitting in the white house and uses this 'bush doctrine' to send next years crop of kids off to kill and be killed... Well, can't you see the POSSIBILITY of a screw up with this doctrine? At all? C'mon!

I'll concede that this is not something to be taken lightly. But this is hardly news, either.

I know you are no fan of Clinton, but a lot of planes flew and bombs fell pretty much on his say-so. And in some cases with even less justification than Bush. In fact, there are damn few presidents in the past few decades, from either party, who did not drop us into some military mission pretty much because he thought it needed to be done. Oh, sure, they sometimes got all the right signatures first, but that doesn't change the fact that a president saw a mission that needed doing and it got done. Some were good ideas. Some were not. Some were based on good data. Some were not.

So yeah, you're right, this can be dangerous.

It should be pointed out, though, that Bush did get congressional authorization first, a fact Democrats are trying mightily to suppress (including presidential candidates), and spent many valuable weeks trying to get the U.N. to go along, until France declared that they would veto anything Bush did.
