re: What would end terrorism?

"Well, let's focus on the literal meaning of my question. It's not enough to destroy particular organizations, which are momentary manifestations of a terrorist movement. New terrorists come along and form themselves into new organizations. Surviving members of destroyed organizations join other organizations, or form the nucleus of new organizations.

In other words, I'm asking the hard question: How do we solve the problem once and for all?"

How do you solve organized crime once and for all? Or war once and for all time.
This isn't a new problem. One solution, which is thousands of years old, is religion. One could say that the current Islamic terrorism, is somewhat due to a technique of teaching- having students memorize text. Being able to mouth all the sounds of the text in the correct sequence, does not mean the person understands what the words actually mean. It's one thing to sing a song, it's another thing to actually understand the song. Having students memorize something can make the job of instruction easier [and it has some value] but if memorization is overvalued, then it can lead to trouble- for one thing, it's deceptive, you might assume a person actually understands something when in fact they could be mostly clueless.
The Pope struggles to understand his religion- it's not because he is stupid, rather it's a road of enlightenment which can consume a lifetime.
