Usually I'd ignore the insults you hurl at people in subject lines, but I'll take on this one. It was a tough decision, but...
I have a problem with a standard of evidence of a threat as low as Tom's "nothing" because it's so low that it doesn't require any American lives to be at risk at all. It's a standard so low that it strips preemptive war of any moral justification. It makes war a voluntary thing, something that can be undertaken for convenience or for the calculated pursuit of geopolitical advantage, using a contrived threat for propaganda cover.
A standard that low puts us in the company of nations we used to condemn for making war without justification. We become the very thing we claim to protect the world against. It gives substance to the charges of our enemies that America is an "imperialist aggressor", a force for evil rather than good in the world. It makes us a force for evil.
It's a matter of morality, Ed. You should consult a dictionary to see what that word means.
