I said "nothing" qualifies as a valid and unmistakable sign of an "imminent threat" of an actual terror attack. I listed all the signs of an impending normal military operation that would NOT be there for a terror attack.
And you are saying that waiting until an actual attack occurs is an "extreme" position.
Under these circumstances, one is left in some very murky territory, and this is where Bush found himself after 9/11. Absent absolute proof of intent, the intent of our enemies has to be discerned from intelligence, knowledge of previous actions, and other tangible and less tangible evidence. This is not easy, and of course, one could be wrong when deciding a nation or group is a threat.
However, if one errs in the other direction, Americans die by the thousands, or even tens of thousands.
The U.N. inspection force is a carload of clowns.
Now what?
And calling what Bush went through for months (at the U.N. and elsewhere) prior to actually invading Iraq "hair trigger" is hardly an accurate interpretation.
A coward would have let the U.N. get jerked around by Saddam for the next year, saved many billions on military and other costs, watched the economy take off like a rocket in 2004, and glided into reelection without a sweat. You honestly think Bush gained politically from this?
