re: Alternatives

Since you acknowledge that military force was justified in Afghanistan after we demanded and they refused to turn over OBL, why would it not follow that after 12 years of refusing to cooperate with UN inspections (SA style cooperation), military force was appropriate.

You might respond that we knew OBL was responsible for 9-11 and Iraq presented no proven danger. The fact remains that 3 sucessive administrations had declared Iraq a danger to peace and in possession of WMD.

I know that the above comparison is not accepted by those that opposed the war but consider this, what if, after invading Afghanistan, we had found evidence that OBL was not directly responsible for 9-11, would it have negated the accomplishment of getting rid of the Taliban? You can't change your mind retroactively if your decision was made based on bad intelligence and the pro-war majority is not buying into a Bush conspiracy.

There are still a few Americans that say the Afghan action was wrong. A sizable minority believes that invading Iraq was wrong. Those that believe the former are as convinced they are right as those that believe the latter.

It is all about opinion.
