Two items:
History is being enthusiastically rewritten to make the Soviet Union a doddering and harmless old nation that never meant us any harm, but in fact it was a massive, expansionist force with the stated goal of making the entire planet into Soviet client states. The Soviets did not invade Afghanistan because terrorists had blown up the Kremlin. Tanks did not roll into Eastern Europe full of tourists. People used to know what the words "Prague Spring" meant. Or "gulags." People died in the kill zones between East and West Germany. There were atomic missiles being moved into Cuba. Active efforts were being made all over the world to co-opt the governments of nations in Asia, Africa, and the Western Hemisphere, and turn them into forward bases for the U.S.S.R.
That history is being buried now, or warped by bizarre "moral equivalence" concepts between America and a nation that destroyed human rights and killed almost sixty million of its own people, but these were real threats to our freedom.
Why is this important?
America and its allies chose to walk some low roads and deal with some nasty people to keep that threat at bay, not unlike having to kiss up to Stalin to beat Hitler. We are paying for some of those low roads now, and will be for some time. Lord knows we paid for kissing up to Stalin, with a strong and militant Soviet Union coming out of WWII and a United Nations that has had the Soviet Union in a controlling position for most of its existence.
The Left, like the author of that film, will naturally condemn these low roads without reservation, since the Left is incapable of defining the Soviets or communism as a threat. There's no way to get past this thinking, and why try.

I do pretty well at research on the Web, probably due to a fairly rapid reading speed. I was very good at libraries, too, but was usually frustrated by the books or magazines I needed being elsewhere. The Internet is like living next door to the Library of Congress, and being able to find books at super speed. I love it!
A standing offer: If you, or anyone else, needs a piece of information or a reference, let me know. Probably on Community or Off-Topic. I'll see what I can do. I have a lot of fun looking up stuff, mostly since I always learn something on the way, much of it completely unrelated to my original goals.
Heck, I found your ferret-in-the-trousers article, and I don't think you ever noticed! ;)
