Much of what you say is happening now, with our wonderful private system.

Health care workers already overtest people who have insurance, from fear of malpractice suits. The poor and the otherwise uninsured are not subject to this same solicitiousness because those who are uninsured are less likely to be able to employ a malpractice attorney.

The rich and superrich in America already get superior care. The poor and uninsured are already warehoused in overworked, and frequently closing, emergency rooms.

To suggest that the present willl become the future if we entertain changes to the present system works very ineffectually as a scare tactic.

I realize that Franklin Roosevelt will always be Stalin's "pal" in the imaginations of right-wingers who can't otherwise discredit the man's leadership and work during our nation's two biggest crises of the 20th century, the Great Depression and World War II. Be that as it may, the agreements at Yalta, however tragic their outcomes appear to us now, had nothing to do with Social Security. Social Security and other government programs initiated during the Great Depression fulfilled promises that Roosevelt made to the American people. The United States was close to revolution at the time, something the politicians and other leaders knew and we seem to have forgotten.

Several wartime photos taken at Allied council meetings don't constitute being "pals". It was a war. You have to make nice with the people who are fighting your enemies.

Though it might be amusing to trot out pictures of the current leadership and their "pals", some of whom are not thrown together not because of a desperate war, but because they have (or had) common economic or political interests in peacetime.
