Reality

In a sense you are right about "enslaving". And, if you look at it realistically all of us except the ultra-rich are slaves of the State. And they aren't because they can move from State to State with impunity.

Try not paying property taxes. Try not buying a license for your vehicle. Both house and car are gone. Try not paying income taxes. Like a Roman Candle, you'll shine for a while and then burn out. Or live with the threat of burning out. Or lose your house and car even if you did pay your property taxes and vehicle license fees. That's enslavement.

Especially under Bush, the rights you do have as a "free" citizen of the US have been eroded beyond belief. You no longer have any reasonable expectation of privacy, even if you do pay the State to let you live out of the weather and move around.

Universal Health Care is less "enslaving" than, say, Bush's right simply on his whim to jail you forever without any charges, your family knowing and it being a felony for anyone who knows about it to say anything. Now THAT is enslaving, I think you'll agree. And no Conservative is at all upset about that, even though it's a hallmark of all dictatorships. Stalin, Hitler, etc.
