re: Bush the Child Killer

The "bracket creep" of SCHIP programs is just the most recent end run to edge toward full nationalized health care. Like previous attempts ("Medicare for Everyone"), it involves expanding programs beyond people who can't afford health care or are in need, to people who would normally not need government assistance.

The idea that a family of four earning $52,000 a year (from doing WHAT?) would need government health care is ridiculous. Odds are very good that anyone in this income bracket is already getting health insurance from their income source. "Poverty" has a meaning. 250 percent of poverty level ain't poverty any more. By definition.

The plan on the part of the socialized medicine crowd, of course, is to make it possible for the middle class to discard perfectly workable private solutions for "free" government health care, and scrap the private plan they or their employer now have to pay for. Hell, who wouldn't?

The restrictions described are stopgaps to keep this under control.

So why try to extend government assistance to those who don't really need it?

Nationalized health care isn't about health care. It's about political power. A government health care system (or any other entitlement) designed to help the poor and those actually in need, doesn't interest the Left. There aren't enough poor in America to give them the power they want.

The target is all health care for everyone under the control of the State. Whether it's good health care or not is really beside the point.

Sideways approaches are necessary, because whenever nationalized health care is proposed directly, even at the state level, it's usually shot down in flames. Stealth is needed.
