But, but, but

This is a very interesting subject Robert and I applaud you effort to get it going.

It just seems easy to project a Utopia and it is equally easy to attack that Utopia.

Let's say Roosevelt was not elected and a visionary Republican came to office. (save the comments on a visionary Republican)

We might say that he cured the depression by providing incentives to business for hiring as well as instituting public works projects well within the range of conservative philosophy. A SS system based on private investment would also help.

Social Security would be created but the payroll deductions would be invested in the stock market instead of low interest government securities. This alone would create a social security Utopia based on the actual performance of stocks. However the "yeah buts" would still be valid in that liberals would question a continuous up market under conservative leadership.

The U.S.A. I would envision would be strong and prosperous with a healthier social security system, a better reputation in the world based on fewer foreign entanglements and a strong military. State and local governments would be more rather than less important.

We would have still entered WWII and sponsered the UN with perhaps a better framework. Federal government would be much smaller and rely more on fees and non-tax sources of income.

All this would be tempered by the fact that the services that are demanded of the government will come to pass. Only a police state can follow some political philosophy to the letter. That is true whether it is liberal or conservative.

I imagine you had something more detailed and specic in mind but this is the best that I can do for free. :)
