I could go to California, buy a box of safety pins and vote. ;)
We all pay taxes. Some taxes are more retrograde than others.
My two older kids paid taxes (state taxes: PA never gives a nickel back) on their income starting at 12 years old. Paper routes are classified as small businesses; the carriers are contractors with the newspaper company. Would they get to vote, or is it only taxpayers of a certain age?
I believe you mean property taxes. I certainly wouldn't rent in a community like that, where I defrayed part of my landlord's property taxes as part of my rent but couldn't vote on key standard-of-living type issues. Nor would I shop there.
You might call me an exception, and maybe I am. But all it takes is a few exceptions with big mouths and a friend at the newspaper to wake up the many sleepwalker-citizens we have. The sleepwalkers are the problem. There's a reason we count sheep in dreams.

Would you include sales tax?
