re: Utopia? I don' want no steenking Utopia!
Hi Mary Anne,
I was in my public library last night and happened on a book called What IF? by Robert Cowley, Stephen Ambrose, and John Keegan. I seriously considered checking it out, but realized my reading queue is much too long at the moment and that I have to get some work done now that spring has arrived. Its on my list for when things get a little slower however.
I have no wish for a perfect world. I have no ambition to dream one, because there would have to be only saints to live there, and that means I would have to go.
I love your quote. Although I do sometimes dream of my utopia, I do realize their is a tails side of that coin as well. I've never liked the song Imagine for the same reason. It all sounds wonderful the first time around, but the second time I start thinking of how oppressed such a world would be. Imagine a world without freedom. For the same reason a utopia would be less than swell, unless everybody was like-minded and could opt-out at any moment. I don't think such a society could last too long. Humans are just too selfish, nosy, and power hungry. Till that changes, forget it.
