There's one thing that I didn't find plausible.
How likely would it have been to put SS deductions into the Stock Market with the memory of 1929 so fresh?

As far as WW2 goes, someone will have to enlighten me. The only historical US figure I know who was vociferously anti-war was Joe Kennedy, who I presume was a democrat (as well as rabidly anti-British)...
How were the party lines drawn out wrt going to war against Germany prior to Pearl Harbor?
