So did the House Space Subcommittee: CAPS: 32-0

Ahah. Okay, since mistating the goal here and claiming science is being "scrapped" will not work, you Mars Enthusiasts try bringing the anti-nuke folks in. Great idea, except that you're shooting yourself in the foot, because manned Mars flight will require large amounts of nuclear.

On the other hand, we can handle all CAPS power requirements by using beamed photovoltaic, which helps with the development of renewable CO2 free solar power for used right here on Earth.

Now do you want to wave the nuke flag?

What's bizarre here is trhe way your minds work when it comes to anything having to do with Mars. You all know about beamed photovoltaic, many of you have written posts on it here, and all of a sudden you have forgotten that the technique exists.

Look guys, Mars is going to be the fun part of this. Even I myself would rather look at images from the surface of Mars than look at images from the surface of the Moon. The geology is much more interesting, and the engineering and social issues regarding manned Mars fllight are much more intriguing.

What this is about is doing what needs to be done, and in this case it just so happens that the best place to do that is on the Moon.
