re: Sonny, where were you when it started?

Late seventies? Blowing away the college entrance exams (including a 5 on the AP biology test) and a member of L-5 and TPS expecting us to build Oneil colonies and returning to the Moon before Mars. Fortunately I love math and can run the number myself once given the equations. I know the moon first option seem obvious because it's how I felt until I ran the math. It's also obvious from debates over the years that most moon firsters don't grasp the math at all and I'm damn sure the politicians who can't add and subtract well enough to balance a budget can't even if the do get to set NASA policy. So get back with me when you learn enough biology to realize Martian organism aren't likely to be big boogeymen.

Sorry I assumed your limited knowledge of biology implied youth. If you started pushing Mars in the late seventies, you certainly were ahead of me there. I've also run the math on space economics and would be utterly embarassed I bought into the concept of space solar power back then if I didn't have the excuse of no engineering training then.

Mark
