I'm tired of the blame game.
If some people are too stupid to leave or to keep informed that's THEIR responsibility and their problem.
As much as I'd like to point to the incompetency of New Orlean's local government or the weak state response - it's everyone's own responsibility to seek adequate shelter or evacuate from a hurricane.
Political correctness demands that some folks blame the victims circumstances on others rather than on the "victims" where it belongs.
That's fine for the exploiters who use events to further themselves but for those who are actually somewhat educated and can think for themselves it is abhorrent.
New Orleans is an abysmal mess. Almost half of the cities high schools churn out students where only 2% (2 out of 100!) meet their own (LEAP 21) Louisiana testing standards. These kids are not English second language kids. This region is an educational disaster zone and stupidity, ignorance and poverty are rampant. That's why we see the looters, gangs, rapists and folks too stupid to leave the area In the name of political correctness, we must now ignore this statistic, lest we come to any of those historical conclusions poverty, intelligence and registered democrats.
In the liberals world - everyone's a victim. If they get in a car accident it's the carmakers fault. If they don't leave after an evacuation call it's George Bush's fault.
The people who compose the political left love to shirk personal responsibility and are the masters of moral equivalence. Whether it be equating Tom with Don or blaming government for the ills of the world, it is obvious that only conservatives cause the problems in the world.
Ignoramuses, violent psychopaths and societal scum all get a free ride and must be the victims of society. They cannot be held responsible for their own lives and actions. They are not seen as individuals but get lumped in with a "group". It's not John Q. Idiot figured he would ride out the storm, it's just another victim who is someone elses responsibility.
All the whining, demanding victims of the hurricane put themselves in the situation they are in. While they are an object of compassion, this should not blind one to the fundamental personal responsibility we have for our own lives.
Poverty is not an excuse for not leaving the city. There was ample time to leave on foot if necessary and head for higher ground. Only the medical cases and elderly have a valid excuse. And for these it is only too painfully obvious that their local government failed them. Yet, even they are responsible for their own safety and should have arranged exodus with those who were able to take them away.
Whenever you have a disaster in a region where ignorance is in abundance and law and order are not present, you will witness looting, killing, rape, self-inflicted tragedies, and topping it all of a sense of self-pity and righteousness.
This self-pity, paraded only by the more ignorant who still haven't learned this important concept of personal responsibility, is exploited by the media to further their own ratings and money agenda, but for those who actually possess a working brain, its exploitation and earmarks of distortion are self-evident and garner contempt.
You go ahead and have your witch hunt for finding why stupid people find themselves in bad predicaments, and why they aren't saved from their own stupidity by folks with savvy.
They elected a local government that is most compatible with their thinking or lack there of.
That's freedom Robert. Freedom means staying when you should leave. Freedom means electing your own incompetent officials. And for you and the left here it means finding ways for other folks to shirk their own personal responsibility for their lives.
Bottom line - if the region where you live get's hit with a big earthquake and your house burns down and you are left in the street homeless and have to find food and shelter. YOU are responsible. Not Schwarzenegger. Not Bush. Not any local government freeloader. You know the region is subject to earthquakes, you choose to live there. You take the risk.
Smart people understand this.
The blame-game is the pastime of self-serving idiots.
