What happened to fun and wit?

I'm no fan of God inserted in the pledge either. I thought you knew that. My facetious response was generated by Raoul's eurighteous condemnation of US action in Iraq.

I was conflicted. Like some sixties psychedelic nightmare, images started flashing in my mind's eye....

Then I was visited by a ghost

The ghost started calling George Bush and America names and said only HE had the right to murder, massacre and plunder in "backwards" foreign nations and that Bush was giving murderers and plunderers a black eye, since he had absolutely no loot or plunder to show for it and was actually granting new rights to these oppressed people. Yes he was very Eurocentric in his views of Bush. He said Bush had set back Iraqis exploitation at the hands of the Europeans. He chastised me for supporting Bush--who absolutely ruined what was a very profitable exploitation of Iraqi's and Iranians by Europe & Russia. He railed on about the worthlessness of segments of humanity and that some folks only made good slaves.

"forced labour is the only way to civilise and uplift these indolent and corrupt peoples of the Far East."

The Ghost was rude, obnoxious, conceited and so very, very....what's the term I'm looking for. Darn it! I usually remember the word because a waffle was named after it. Eggo? Nah, that's not it. Well, it will come to me eventually. Probably right after I click post.

Yes, it got worse. Suddenly there were other ghosts arriving and started chasing the first ghost. 8 million men, women and children from the Congo came, and Leopold fled through the walls with angry villagers worked to death in hot pursuit of the world's second largest mass murderer, only being exceeded by Stalin.

I read how this book has been shunned in Belgian by folks unable to accept that they have no leg to stand on when criticizing the US.

In fact, these ghosts assured me Belgium would be reminded yet again for its crimes against humanity and "indolent peoples".

So you can see it was rather hectic around here. Naturally, what passes for humor, for me anyways, is often lost in translation.
