re: People can call it what they want. It's still December 25.

Mary Anne: “We all know what it is. It's not a civil holiday that we can move to the last Monday of the month. “

REB: There are many trying to turn it from the holiday it started out to be.

Mary Anne: “I would like you to tell me the precise circumstances under which I said that the liberals are at war with the Christians. That doesn't sound like something I would ever say. I might have said that fundamentalists are waging war on liberals.”

REB: It was a while ago. I remember it because it was so unlike you to say something like that. That was when I realized this was very personal with you. Here is what I am referring to. I had to Google it.

Mary Anne: “Why the hostility? Oh, I don't know... Maybe it's the continuing, stupid Hallowe'en wars. Maybe it's the stream of books repeatedly stolen from the public library in an attempt to censor materials available because they are "anti-Christian". These are mostly sex ed books, but they also include works on evolution, and selected fiction. We once had a brand new videotape of a Harry Potter movie returned erased. Maybe it's the attempt to insert Genesis into the biology curriculum. Maybe it's the attempt to exclude discussion of contraception from 11th grade sex education classes. Maybe it's the rocks that the Christian kids threw at my son because he wasn't a Christian -- they were quite specific in the things that they said. Maybe it was the high school girls who stalked my daughter and threatened her every day because she wasn't a Christian until I had to make a statement at a school board meeting to bring a stop to it. “

REB: My church doesn’t have a problem with Halloween or Evolution. I have never seen Christian kids in my area be mean to other kids for not being Christian- that is wrong. It certainly did not happen in my school. I was involved in my Christian youth group. We never did those kinds of things. What we did do was help people. Like fixing poor people homes and providing food for those less fortunate. We helped people, we did not hurt them. We still do help people. My church helped over 500 Katrina victims. We asked for nothing in return.

Mary Anne: Maybe it's the absolutely stupid claim that Christians are being persecuted because, gradually, they are losing the preferrential treatment to which they have been long accustomed.

REB: Maybe some people needs to loose their prejudice (for that is what it is) against Christians.
