Power of ownership and contract law

Monaghan has the right to sell or lease property to residents of his proposed city. He has the right to determine what's sold in his shops and what channels are carried by the local cable into his homes.

Obviously the set up is much like a homeowners association which tells you what "authorized" color you can paint your fence and that you can't let your lawn grow three inches before mowing it.

This is the power of signing a contract. Residents of any city, would obviously be aware of these things before moving in.

The city of Irvine, CA doesn't let folks open their garage door for more than 1/2 hour a day. Sure it's ridiculous, asinine even, but the folks that live there bought into that ordinance.

Planned communitys are all over. Leisure World requires old age to become a member - does it discriminate against youth? Sure. But that comes with the contract.

Contracts are necessary and a powerful tool in society to SUPPORT freedom of choice.

Yes, Monaghan is FREE to build a city as he desires. You or MA here want to REPRESS his freedom to do so, whereas he is not imposing his lifestyle on you.

Disney set up requirements for residents in his vision of the future city built in Florida with EPCOT, his "Prototype Community of Tomorrow". Vehicles were only allowed in certain areas and it was a protype for homeowner associations and planned communities everywhere.

Folks should be FREE to live as they choose. That's the miracle of capitalism and the USA. We have all sorts of folks here with all sorts of beliefs and we generally let them live out their dreams.

We let the Amish, WOJ, Mormons, LDS, UFO worshippers, etcetera live in a way their religion dictates so long as it doesn't violate our laws.

Individual freedom is closely tied to group freedom. Once you seek to limit a group, you are often repealing individual rights in the process.

For folks who were having conniptions about the Patriot Act, you are certainly quick to trample the rights of others when they don't agree with your beliefs.
