Laws and contracts are a tool of freedom.
In the old days you and Monaghan would suit up and battle. Perhaps you would gather some warriors to go against his own soldiers.
It's better now. More evolved.
If you wish for a return to the days when human values matters were settled on the end of a lance or by who finished a battle cleaning his blade--be careful what you wish for.
With certain religions' practitioners procreating like rabbits, we'd all be living in "Catholica" or "Muslimana" or some other hellhole without the power of law and contracts to protect us and our freedom.
Think about that for a bit while you wax poetic about human nature.
