Sorry RL I do not understand stationary energy that can be described as having the ability to do work.

"E=mc^2 is the special case of the formula for an object at rest... it is the energy intrinsic to the object....
I understand that formula as representing the fundamental relationship between mass and energy, energy being the motion part of the equation, represented only partially by the letter "c".
I agree that there is intrinsic energy to all objects and that includes all electrons protons neutrons and any other particle or their conglomerates, but if it is labeled as energy then it is kinetic in nature.
If it is truly stationary (The components of the internal structure having no change in relative distance to each other over time.) then it should be represented as the potential for kinetic energy.

"You know, Johannes, there ARE texts out there that explain special relativity in a simple way that on require the reader to know basic algebra and calculus...."
I agree, this one for instance has a very good explanation and also includes the math.

From the above site:
"Looking at the above formulas for energy, one sees that when an object is at rest (u = 0 and ³ = 1) there is a non-zero energy remaining:
This energy is referred to as rest energy. The rest energy does not cause any conflict with the Newtonian theory because it is a constant and, as far as kinetic energy is concerned, it is only differences in energy which matter.
Taking this formula at face value, we see that in relativity, mass is simply another form of energy."
I maintain that this rest energy is internal to fundamental particles and is kinetic in nature, that is; it contains motion even though that motion can not be detected externally.
I disagree with the notion that "mass is simply another form of energy" I maintain that the essence of mass is a different entity from that of energy. I maintain that the fundamental essence of mass is conserved in all energy transformations.

"Instead of spouting nonsense why dont you try and educate yourself?"
Obviously you consider my understanding of the word energy as "nonsense", that leads me to believe that you understand the fundamental structure/composition of energy. Please explain it to me and others here so that we all will know the true meaning of the word.

"(of course simple scientific notation and multiplication have always seemed to elude you in the past so there really may be no hope...)"
Hmm..... scientific notation? I see; in this formula that we are discussing, it is that little number two written in superscript and it represents the function of multiplying the previous number by itself, is that not a square, or does it simply mean that the previous number has been raised to its second power. Maybe I need help in that area.
Multiplication? Is that not the function of adding the same number so many times? :-)
Hey I think that division, is also a mathematical function, so if I take a word, I can divide it into syllables, such as OXY MOR ON.
