I'm a dictionary definition agnostic. IMHO, the answer to the question: "Is the universe an artifact?" is beyond human understanding. When I'm in a social setting and people are trying to force me into a religious discussion, I'll invoke the following tactic:
Question: "Do you believe in God?"
Evasive answer: "I believe in nature. If God is nature then I believe in God."
This response is crap. I redefined the meaning of "God" in order to terminate the line of questioning. If the questioner had an ounce of brains, he would have asked:
Question: "Do you believe the universe is an artifact?"
Unevasive answer: "I don't know."
In that exchange, my position as an agnostic was revealed. Fortunately most people are only smart enough to ask the stock "Do you believe in God?" question and I can then then dodge a tedious religious debate by offering a crap response.
