Interesting how you set up your arithmetic analogy with one correct answer and one wrong answer, leading to a compromise that's also incorrect.
Why not pose the problem as "2+2=3" versus "2+2=5". In that case, doesn't compromise produce the correct answer? And might that not be a better metaphor for decision-making in a democracy?
