I could probably say something esoteric like "a sum of vectors", but basically I just figure that to deflect the massive inertia of American politics a couple of degrees closer to a better course requires the little tugboat to redline it on a perpendicular course. A tiny bit of Buchanan's basic beliefs, such as an isolationism that might result in a more restrained American foreign policy, couldn't do us anything but good.
I got a kick out of Art's metaphor of embracing the man with a "full-body condom" or whatever it was. Sure, can't disagree with that. Buchanan's gone nuts more than once in his career, and I'd only trust him with power if I had him on a tight leash (e.g. "a strong Democratic Congress"). I'd rather sic him on the GOP as Chairman and sit back and watch the bodies pile up.
