re: I take it you haven't gone through much hardship

How's losing a mother suddenly to a cerebral hemorrhage at 17, my father from cancer at 20, and my older sister to MS about 10 years ago? Don't even try to tell me that my life is better and more rich because of those events.

Yes, it's different and I had to grow up fast but I got to live lots of years without the influence that LIVING people give you. My children have no grandparents on my side of the family to relate to.

My father withered away to 1/2 his normal weight and suffered greatly before he passed on. I'm sure he gained a true insight into life in those final days. My sister turned into a vegetable and the last time I saw her she was a twisted hulk of her former self curled up in a fetal position in her own piss. You tell me who gained from that experience. Your Christian laws wouldn't allow the state to end that fiasco long after it was apparent she was vegetative.

It's a copout to try to find some design in the randomness of our whacked out lives. It's the ultimate form of rationalization and it fucks us up royally when our logic takes over. To me it's much more comforting knowing there are things no mortal or immortal have a lick of control over and that you simply go on making the best of what comes. That I can handle and I get lots of days of joy and wonder from that attitude. It sure beats imagining some fucked up, bored supreme being playing over our anthill with a magnifying glass.
