Some of that I understand some I don't

Living in the South most of my neighbors are professed Christians. They are far from being fundamentalists. It just that they have been told for generations that you must believe in god and anyone that says different is risking death by lighting bolt. They are hard wired to belief in heaven and hell and they are just trying to make the cut.

To me being a non-believer/Atheist/Agnostic is not really caring and being set free from the bs that goes along with being religious. I might snicker at bumper stickers or chuckle to myself if someone asks me to pray for them, but I do not feel compelled to prothelize my nul position or upset their childish faith by challenging them and I am not angered. I am at peace among them.

I fully agree with you on the issue of the religious music in a place where you have paid for a service. I would very likely complain and I would certainly take my business elsewhere.

The main thing I agree with is smiling and walking away. I have learned the hard way that this is a good reaction to many of life's aggravations.

My favorite god quote is from Nietzche: Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators the creator seeks -- those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest.

This seems to be the sentiment that you express in your last paragraph.
