Lindy, Lindy

You're reading way too much into this. Life has been complicated but I've faced far worse. I'm getting such a laugh about putting me into therapy. Now if they give out great drugs....maybe. Let's get a grip here people. Post in the Flame area are simply that, designed to either blow off steam or to incite heated discussion.

All you armchair psychologists out there need to realize that posts on the internet are not always a look into a person's soul only a keyhole into a door the person provides. I'm fully convinced that there's characters on here that are nothing at all like they portray themselves. Notice some of the more controversial stay hidden under the premise of their own security. As far as we know it's because they're really some pimple-faced 14 year old computer nerd that never leaves their home.

I'm sorry for you guys that somehow feel that choosing atheist beliefs (or lack thereof) is just another life choice but it has this dark side to it once you decide you're not going to stay in the background. You understand quickly what being a minority in this nation is all about. Yet, in many ways you lose the rationalization the majorities give to the minorities where choice is not an issue. A white racist can still look at a black man and know that the individual did not choose his lot in life. A person of religion however knows the atheist made a conscious choice to choose the beliefs they did against often incredible family and peer pressure and thousands of years of social history.

If you do get into a discussion about philosophy with a group of believers, your arguments carry with them a condescending tone whether you intend it or not. There is no nice way to convey to a person that they are falling for a con game because you're usually not only conveying gullibility to them but to a good portion of their friends and family as well. There is simply no logical way to look at hard core religious beliefs as rational thought when you have spent your entire life finding gaping flaws in all of them and the texts that support them. I'm sorry if this offends people. If there were a way to talk philosophy without the offense I'd be the first one to sign up but it's the nature of religious design to make it contentious. It does not signify anger. Frustration is evident but that's hardly a sign of requiring professional help.

Did Mark Twain require a therapist? His atheistic beliefs during a time of rampant fundamentalism probably brought him some anger and angst.

Just maybe the anger you sense is widespread and not just in the eyes of the atheist.
