" We simply have to walk around like zombies and love the cosmic practical joker. "

If your next door neighbour was Hispanic, do you think it was a Catholic church? Many hispanics are very religious.

You sound very hostile. You should have paid your respects for the family and left when it became intolerable. The few funerals I have attended have not beeen anywhere NEAR a scene like that.
But out of respect for the dead and her family (who may have been weak and vulnerable), let them be comforted by their religion if that's what they need.

Often people don't have the knowledge to even question their existence.
What they need is just a little faith and a little humility.
Not "faith" as in "JEESUS!" Just faith in THEMSELVES.
Easy for people like you and I to say that, but not so easy for others.

BTW, I have heard REMARKABLE stories about the power of prayer, sometimes from atheists who were in untenable situations and survived, who later changed their minds. Perhaps people have perverted the very concepts of religion itself. The belief in a higher power is a Universal Energy to me, one that can be tapped into.

Because having faith is nothing more than strengthening yourself by belief in another. Athletes do this. Sometimes that strength is themselves. Sorry to hear you had such a rough weekend.

Feeling better now?
