Oh yeah Lindy, this was definitely a clean out but I didn't say anything I regret. What I didn't say though (because it was not my intent to soften the blow) was that I was truly glad the people that were comforted by their faith found some way to cope. I would never allow my contempt for the abuses of religion get in the way of their day.
90% of the people in attendance were innocents that were truly grieved over the loss of someone I consider a very fine and moral woman and I owe her a great deal for the basic values she helped instill in my children. My railing was against the 10% that took advantage of those in grief to promote their own narrow-minded fundamentalist views.
The family is certainly Hispanic but Nana's religion and that of the family leaned more towards the Evangelical sects. I believe at one time she was attending a Baptist church. The one we went to had some generic name but had that charismatic revival tent feel to it.
ER had the balls above to spell out my feelings about religion and this kind of cult-like behavior and there's really no way to disguise the lack of respect that ensues when someone with the mental faculties necessary to seek out reason in their life falls for the con game. It would be easy to simply apply that low respect for anyone of faith but I've met way too many exceptions, people that wear their doubts on their sleeves and live peaceful and non-judgmental lives.
Don't worry about me. There is also fun in flaming despite the frustrations of life. Finding things that I know will evoke emotions in other members is part of my continuing education into human nature. You'll always know though that I never lie about what I post. My feeling will sometimes be brutal but always honest.

- You can call Humanity many things, but unimportant is not one of them.
- But we are unimportant, insignificant!

- I disagree
- We cannot claim "intelligence" is the summum of the universe
- Without intelligence, the Universe may as well not even exist.
