That was an unexpected answer.
For myself, I'm not sure that consistency of principles is a bad thing. Theoretically, a principle is something basic, and the idea of having several conflicting ones at the same time is kind of an odd concept, which is why the answer was unexpected.
Keep in mind that application of one's principles need not be oversimplistic, nor is it impossible or even unlikely to alter one's basic principles based on knowledge and experience.
My own somewhat facetious take on it based on how I normally see the words used:
"Ideas and principles" What I believe
"Ideology and dogma" What you guys believe.
