"When do folks realize government and the cult of personality does not really provide a panacea to their ills?"
Well good government is pretty important. It's the only real difference between the US and say Venezuela.
The problem is people don't know what a good government is.
US government is still the best government on this planet.
The only real question is will it remain so?
It probably will for some time.
China and India don't look like they going to have a government any where close to US govt anytime soon.
But there of course other good government in this world.
So, why has the US had one of the best governments in the world for last 200 years?
The problem is there tonnes of people who don't know the US is a pretty good govt, never mind that it's the best government ever in the history human existence. And might be the best government human will know of for another thousand or two thousand years.
"When does one stop wasting effort wishing for someone else to make it better and simply follow a phliosophy of self-sufficience in all aspects?"
Noble sentiments, no doubt. But it is more than that, though this sentiment might be important to lead one more in the direction of better government.
And of course the US government could be a much better government than it is currently or ever has been.
There many possible ways of making a better government, but one first recognize that the US a good government or point to some government which is better and give our reason why it is so.
