re: Along with the Magi.
True they have tried, but their efforts have been cast in the pattern of an outworn tradition. Faced by failure of credit they have proposed only the lending of more money. Stripped of the lure of profit by which to induce our people to follow their false leadership, they have resorted to exhortations, pleading tearfully for restored confidence. They know only the rules of a generation of self-seekers. They have no vision, and when there is no vision the people perish.
The money changers have fled from their high seats in the temple of our civilization. We may now restore that temple to the ancient truths. The measure of the restoration lies in the extent to which we apply social values more noble than mere monetary profit.
Happiness lies not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort. The joy and moral stimulation of work no longer must be forgotten in the mad chase of evanescent profits. These dark days will be worth all they cost us if they teach us that our true destiny is not to be ministered unto but to minister to ourselves and to our fellow men.
Recognition of the falsity of material wealth as the standard of success goes hand in hand with the abandonment of the false belief that public office and high political position are to be valued only by the standards of pride of place and personal profit; and there must be an end to a conduct in banking and in business which too often has given to a sacred trust the likeness of callous and selfish wrongdoing. Small wonder that confidence languishes, for it thrives only on honesty, on honor, on the sacredness of obligations, on faithful protection, on unselfish performance; without them it cannot live.
This was from FDR's address. Pure unadulterated socialism with a healthy dose of religionist references for the faithful. FDR, like the rest of the socialists, really did believe the US public had little more than the working IQ of the average pugilist after a career in the ring. It was designed for folks who liked to attend church services - a style Obama has embraced.
FDR was a womanizing, blackmailing socialist who secured personal power at the expense of our nation. His policies, including the failed minimum wage, are what have brought the nation to its knees. Outsourcing is the direct result of wage controls and interference in the free market. All the jobless today can thank FDR. All the illegals working for less may not know it but have FDR to thank - he is their patron Saint.
Yes, FDR, almost singlehandedly ruined the future of the US even as he tried to "save" it from those dirty moneylenders. His "new deal" was socialism masked under reinterpreting constitutional "equality" and he and Stalin had far more in common than just seeking to spend the rest of their living days in the seat of power calling the shots. The "New Deal" - contrary to popular belief - didn't save the masses from poverty, it was the second World War and the industrial challenge of catching up with Germany and Japan which has that honor. One look at the poverty in the US circa 1939 will make that quite clear. The evil industrialists which were scorned were now suddenly patriots again - serving an unholy master, in the form of FDR. Price controls, wage controls and black markets emerged as they always do when men interfere in the business and freedoms of other men.
Now we have the minimum wage - unconstitutional.
We have social security - unconstitutional.
Both achieved by FDR blackmailing the Supreme Court justices and now we are paying the price. Like the Soviet Union before it, the US is now posed to collapse under socialist, progressive policies.
The US government was a reaction to the injustices of a former King. The founders of the US spent several decades absolving relations with a king. People like kings, however. It's in their nature. They like to someone to point at, someone to lead them and someone to blame when things go wrong. and the past 90 years the US has been trying to recreate an all powerful monarchy.
That the masses of today largely do not understand the market capitalism upon which the US was founded and which fueled its tremendous growth and prosperity above and beyond all other nations is a given. That they still label capitalism as "trickle down economics" means they do not understand the creation of wealth - or even understand what wealth truly is. Wealth is not money. Money is worthless. Wealth is goods, factories, land and objective things with real value. Money is paper and is not valuable. Industries build and create goods - they generate REAL wealth. A government minimum wage increase generates NO wealth and simply depreciates the value of currency.
So instead of knowledge of wealth generation, they merely give the credit to their Kings, who will gladly take the credit.
Obama, Hillary or McCain - none will save the US from the damage it has sustained under the minimum wage, resultant outsourcing and the Walmartification or monopolies that have developed by those who exploit foreign labor to circumvent the minimum wage. None of these folks have the right stuff.
I don't want to see any more new laws. I just want to see laws stripped from the books. The suffering we see is now caused by government interference - and the types of capitalism that have been perverted by it.
What's more, I want to see people figure out that equality is not a good thing, that looking at those who have more or less needs to be accompanied with the understanding that such is the necessary part of a free world. That two comes after one and before three is not an injustice, it is the nature of things.
A humanitarian understands this and works towards the reduction of government in whatever nation they may find themselves.
