Well said. I've groped toward expressing that thought, but as usual you manage in a couple of paragraphs what I've taken pages to fumble through.
Given that so much is equal about all politicians--the pursuit of power by definition reveals the motive--I'm less threatened by those who espouse an ideology of trying to improve things and to help people. The pursuit of power may be most of it, but intentions can influence the outcome.
My other choice is a schizoid ideology that is simultaneously rapturous about the average material wealth produced by our society, yet maintains that America is nevertheless a jungle, red of tooth and claw, and the devil take the hindmost. An ideology that believes that it's just and proper that people should starve because they don't possess job skills currently in demand, and calls it "creative destruction".
The wolf who's proud to be a wolf can't fool me by dressing up in sheep's clothing every four years.
I've been well trained to anticipate the snarky comment Tom will insert about here. But the opposite of a wolf is not necessarily a sheep. Unless you want to label the basic premise of America, the decentralization of power and collective action to resist common threats, including the threat of tyranny, the premise of a herd of sheep. I believe that we must all hang together, or we must surely hang separately.
My surname may have something to do with that, ya think?
