Being a Conservative

I don’t know if I am a typical conservative.

My conservative core values believe in a smaller Federal Government- less government is better (I don’t see too many conservatives practicing this in D.C. these days). Less taxes too.

I believe the local government should have more power than the Federal Government- the local government should know the needs of its people better than the Federal Government should. The Federal Government should provide national security.

I believe we should be tougher on criminals. Murders, rapist and child molesters should have the option for capital punishment IMO. Other criminals should be working while they are in prison to pay for some of the cost of keeping them there.

I believe that with freedom comes responsibility. I believe people should be responsible, and when they are not, they should be responsible for their actions.

I do like the old time values. A quaint, quiet, slow paced, small-town life sounds appealing to me. I wish we could get back to a time when life was slower and centered around a small community. Strolling down to the town center and watch a local band play at in the gazebo for 4th of July celebrations- things like that. Yes, I would love to live in Mayberry.

However, when it comes to the Environment, Human and Animal rights, I tend to side with the Liberals. I used to be a Pacifist, before 9/11. I hope one day I can become one again.
