re: To criticize

Ok, fine, everyone can criticize what's going in China.

And the Olympic games are an opportunity.

Up to here is where we agree.

But so is the earthquake and the sudden ability chinese parents have to criticize those responsible for building too fragile schools.

Oh, c'mon Raoul. China was a third world country when most of those buildings were built. its an exercise in blaming the victim to try to excoriate them for an economy of scale. Let me put it this way: They did not chose to be visited with a terrible earthquake. They sis choose to massacre Tibetans and enslave their civilization and try to pass it off as 'see? Its an internal matter!'

And we see more and more openness in China. Like what happened in the SU after Chernobyl. Let's not discourage those signs.

Openness is one thing. Continuing to butcher and oppress a people is another. If 'Openness' means to the Chinese that they will swap nazi-esque unquestioning nationalism for Communism, throw in some unbridled capitalism and call it 'Openness'- then I think the world community should lay a role in discouraging this. When China decides to take from india and pakistan the lands that they claim are 'theirs', after nobody opposed their wiping out of Tibet.... Think about it.

It's unfair though to use athletes who are only there for their performances while business goes on unaltered.
Agreed. As stated in preceeding posts. Next?
