<...The moral code in the handbook, simply states that sexual activities be reserved for marriage, so that the boy can be a good husband and father. I do not have my handbook with me, but could look it up for you, when I get home.
Why is it so bad for an organisation to only accept those, that will uphold its moral teachings?
It is exactly those moral teachings that are like fingernails screeching on a blackboard to the far leftists, and those others who are as apolitical as they are amoral. They don't actually give a rat's rump whether or not gays can or can't be Boy Scouts. It's the moral focus of the organization that puts the BSA on their list for destruction, the same as the Judeo-Christian religion, and any other influential focus of morality. In the same way, radio host Dr. Laura was not targeted for whatever she said or did not say about gays, though that was the pretense. She was targeted for speaking out daily on the idea of a stringent set of moral principles.
A moral code, ANY moral code, is anathema to a philosophy whose main premise is "whatever I want, whenever I want it, and it's right if I say it's right."
You think it's an accident that they're trying to wreck the Boy Scouts? Do you think it's coincidence that they are trying to make the terms "clergyman" and "pedophile" equivalent? What do you think is the goal when they produce and praise "art" that violently blasphemes religious figures, and then show contempt for those who are anguished and angered by it? And these are just some examples. You can think of others.
The existence of an objective moral code, whether one believes, like religious people, that it comes from a supernatural source, or whether one believes, like Objectivists and others, that it can be derived from immutable laws of identity and reality, stands in the way of those who like to have no rules in their lives, and of those who wish to rule others.
The object they have is NOT to argue over what is moral, and what is not. The objective is to negate the very concept of morality. The battle cries: "who are YOU to judge me? Who are YOU to tell me what is right and wrong? Who are YOU to apply your old/white/Western/outdated/tired.capitalist/bourgoise values to me?
Well, who the hell do you HAVE to be? Judgment is within the capability of every person, if they simply go to the effort required.
And once morality is negated? The mindless ones simply wallow in the ability to do whatever they want, without thinking. The more dangerous ones take advantage of the morally-disarmed to take control of them.
The negation of morality is taught at many campuses now, and is creating creatures like this. Creatures that are helpless in the face of monstrous atrocity--who are they to judge? Creatures that would be easy meat for any Fuhrer that comes along.
You are to be congratulated for being a Scout leader. So was my Dad. My brother was an Eagle Scout, who ended up at the Air Force Academy. My nephews were Eagles. Realize what kind of battle you are actually fighting.
It's not about gays, or civil rights, or equal opportunity. It never was. These people want you and the BSA destroyed because of what it represents--an unyielding and objective standard of behavior. They want religions destroyed, with the exception of those fuzzy ones where nothing matters, or nothing is right or wrong.
They will attempt to make you equivalent to the Taliban, or the Inquisition, or other perversions of their own moral codes. You will never be compared to the nuns working in hospitals, or missionaries digging wells, or honest people just trying to raise their kids right.
You will be called Nazis, while the name-callers evade the fact that the Nazis are the end result of the destruction of morality.
Hang in there, and keep up the good work.
* and an ironic favorite, "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Ayn Rand used to say, "Judge, and prepare to be judged."
