Re: BSA and morality

Thanks for the kind words.

A Scout is Honest

ok, i need to clear one thing up though. Not that it makes a big difference, but I am also a former Scout leader as well. Since october I have had a different calling* in my church. I am still on record as a leader at the scout office, but just no longer in an official capacity. The reason for the change has more to do with the organisation of my ward (that's like a parish in mormon-speak). I gave up the calling sadly, because i really liked working with the youth. I am now working directly with the bishop (mormon-speak equivalent to pastor). I missed the teaching though and asked for a scond calling with the kids. So i also teach the 9 year olds. I have about 6 in my class.

Regardless, I will likely have many more oppurtunities to work in the scout capacity in the future, whether as a parent** or as a scout leader.

regards,
-Steve G.

*the term calling is also more mormon-speak. In the LDS faith no one gets paid. Its all voluntary, even the bishop, even the President of the Church. The leaders of the church call people to callings, which they may accept or reject. If they accept, the ward then publicly sustains them to that calling. Any objections are noted and council is started to find out the source of the objection. This is especially important with callings where children are concerned. this gives an oppurtunity to bring to light things like child abuse etc.

**hopefully as a parent. As yet I have 1 daughter, and i would really like to have a son as well.
