re: John Hawkins flattens the "Bush Lied" meme

I don't get it. I was raised a conservative and love my country* but something just stirs my guts when I read over and over flimsy attempts
to justify our first preemptive war.

No one seems to have the balls to say "Whoops! there doesn't seem to be any WMD or a Nuclear program". And although it seems "counterintuitive", there are no concrete ties to Al Qaida.

"Some are suggesting, certainly, that (Saddam) destroyed the weapons after 1998 or maybe even sooner. It's just counterintuitive that he would have done that. His would have been the greatest intelligence hoax of all time, fooling every intelligence agency, three presidents, five secretaries of defense and the entire world into thinking he still had the weapons."

This was exactly my rational for supporting the war. I feel duped.

Tom, you keep posting articles that erode the truth. It’s like watching history being re-written. The only conclusion I can come to is that your motives are just as politically motivated as the "Saddam-loving" "Bush-hating" liberals that you despise.

Saddam's capture has erased our tracks leading up to the war (don't blow your stack, I'm not implying intentional wrong-doing.) "So all this quibbling over WMD is in a very important sense, irrelevant."Thanks to writers like Hawkins, we might require even less justification the next time.

Saddam is gone. That's great.

Our Troops fought for our country. We're proud of them.

But I have one question. If 911 never happened would we have done the same thing? And if not, we had no business doing what we did - the way it was done.

Respectfully,
RobVG
