I would have settled for "as newsworthy."

Examples are legion. Stories of thousands of our troops doing good things, and performing heroic acts, are spiked. Stories of dozens performing atrocities are in the headlines for weeks.

An entire ecosystem is on the way to restoration in southern Iraq, something that should make liberals concerned about some things take at least some notice. Fat chance.

I could go on.

The Left did not want this war to succeed from the very first day tanks crossed the border. The word "quagmire" was in the press before our forces were halfway to Baghdad.

If nothing else, the sheer lust with which the Left in America (including large chunks of the media) greeted every negative event showed the motivation as clear as crystal.

I am not happy with the way things are going right now over there, and realize where errors were made, and also where some changes in tactics, forced by circumstances, made things take longer and become more difficult.

But I wanted it to succeed. And still do. Some people didn't, and still don't, and the helicopters fleeing Baghdad will be the best thing that ever happened to them since the fall of Saigon.

When we have failures and setbacks in Iraq, I see from them Schadenfreuden, self-justification, gloating, and too often, outright glee. I don't see unhappiness, or a wish that things had gone better.

I picked a side I really wanted to win. Others did too, from the very start.
