You're now showing reason in your responses but I'll stand firm on the "cut and run thing" being nothing but simplistic divisiveness.
I think that you are the one suffering from rigidity in this matter because it sure seems that what Robert, ER, Mary Anne, myself, and others are saying about a solution to Iraq is that there simply isn't one that will ever satisfy someone that insists on some measure of progress from now until the day our last soldier leaves.
I and many others seem to be saying that the situation has deteriorated to the point where no matter what course we take, an larger or equal amount of bad and horrific things will occur. If one firmly embraces that concept, there is no cutting and running. It's simply a matter of acceptance. That's not a lazy and thoughtless concept we came up with as your posts tend to imply. We aren't finding that conclusion because of a need for political gain, a fear of any enemy, or gullibility because of the media's influence.
In balance, per my own analysis, our presence is equally or more unstabilizing than it is stabilizing and that's taking into account adding significant troop levels. With that assumption, the only sane option is to get the hell out as soon as possible to minimize the loss of young American life.
As far as your belief that leaving emboldens terrorists, let me remind you that the growing perception that our presence creates more of them makes that a wash. What's worse, a million semi-bold terrorists or 1,000 bold ones? I'm not qualified to make that judgment and I don't believe you are either.
As for Tom, my beef with him is that I've tried compromise with him where I exposed my own bias against many liberal ideals and guess what he did? He went for the throat and pounced on the areas where we differed not with simply debate techniques but with labeling and downright putdowns and inferences that my patriotism was in question. You learn a lot about a man in an exchange like that and, even though I've given him ample opportunities and openings to make some peace, his bulldog attack methods have always surfaced.

- Your good news was welcome but you never acknowledged the bad.

- I would have settled for "as newsworthy."

- Watch TV
- Really its not a failure...
- They started blaming the left way before the election.
