Lyndon Johnson said that if he'd lost Cronkite, he'd lost the war.
Was he right or not? And why?
As far as I know, there was no major threat to cut funding on Vietnam during Johnson's administration, and most of Nixon's. Got anything to back that up?
Do you honestly think that the only effect the Left could have had on this war would have been by trying to pass hostile legislation?
Because of the Democrats being out of power, the attacks have been through the media, through political speeches, TV interviews, campaigns, and every venue through which a politician can get his views out.
The media has been fully on the side of the Democrats on almost every war-related issue, and has pounded on every negative for three years.
Our enemies in Iraq, never mind Iran and Afghanistan, now fully believe that we will cut and run if they simply make the war look bad enough to the American public by performing actual atrocities, and imagined ones (you may have missed my posts on how they have been feeding the mainstream press fake information). Where do you suppose they got the idea that this approach would work?
Vietnam was lost in the battlefield of public opinion, managed by those who form public opinions. North Vietnam was convinced that if they held out long enough, America would give up, forced out by its own people. Sound familiar?
If you want to discuss military tactics and strategies that may have been done differently without the constant fear of losing "hearts and minds" not only in Iraq, but in the U.S., that's a whole separate subject.

- Your good news was welcome but you never acknowledged the bad.
- Is it your contention that the good news is more newsworthy than the obvious carnage?
- I would have settled for "as newsworthy."

- Yeah right
- I would have settled for "as newsworthy."
- Anyone want to bet that within 2 months the right will be blaming our failure in Iraq on the liberals?
- Watch TV
- Really its not a failure...
- They started blaming the left way before the election.
- A lot of that blame will have been honestly earned.
