Plame was no more a "spy" than I am.

Fitzgerald had the name of the person who first leaked her name almost from the start of the investigation, and did nothing about it. That person was never charged in any way. Anybody with a working forebrain can draw a conclusion about the "crime" that was supposedly being investigated.

Oddly, until very recently the CIA was completely unable to nail down Plame's status, although requested to a number of times, and even the recent memo avoided mentioning the law under which covert agents are actually protected.

The Left cheerfully spent years of the Cold War outing spies, calling for the end of the CIA, and revealing classified material. It was kind of a hoot to see them suddenly becoming big pals with the CIA and all hot and bothered about national secrecy when they thought they could bring down Rove or Cheney.
