Would it be too obvious to point out that the paperwork crap you are going through is also part of our current government health care bureaucracies? That Medicare and Medicaid paperwork is at least as tedious as what you're doing?
You think a universal government system won't have "bean counters?" That there will be no need to try and figure out if an expense is legitimate or not?
You really think in your ideal world you'd just be able to run all those papers past you and stamp "approved" while you watch videos on your computer?
As for your next suggested step, which is rigid wage and price controls on medical providers, that would be inevitable at some point with any nationalized system (see what's happening in France). And you'll get exactly the kind of service such controlled systems have always provided: Crappy, assuming it's even available.
It's nice to think we'll have a choice in this. Same as the choice I have to opt out of Social Security, I suppose. I always have the dubious privilege of having to pay the ruinous taxes, turning down the services the taxes pay for, and then having to pay extra for the services on the private market.
I expect private alternatives will end up being discouraged under a universal government system, if not made actually illegal. Like private schools, non-government alternatives tend to be embarrassing if allowed to exist.
